Brian

Brian is the default text-to-speech voice used on Thor's Twitch and YouTube channels.

The Brian voice from StreamElements is the one that was used originally on the channel, but it is now supported by plenty of different systems, including Twitch's own, and the currently-used TTSLabs service.

Brian's tricks

Inputting certain text patterns will cause Brian to react in various strange ways. Some known ones are documented below.

The pause trick

Using the character sequence of a space, followed by a forward slash (/), followed by another space, will cause Brian to pause for a while without saying anything. Repeating the sequence will make the pause longer.

The number trick

Brian will try to say really long numbers out loud in full, for example "9999" is not "nine nine nine nine", but rather, "nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine". The largest number that Brian recognizes is a trigintillion, i.e. 10⁹³.

Irish wristwatch

Brian cannot say this combination of words. Don't waste your bits on it.

Swears

Attempting to use swear words in a TTS message will cause them to be replaced with other, funnier words.
